Dr K. S. Sukon is the founder Director-General of Open University of Mauritius – the first local ISO Certified public university in Mauritius. After nearly four years of operation, the Open University of Mauritius already has over 5,000 learners. Dr Sukon has been the Chairman of the Board of the Mauritius College of the Air and has previously worked at University of Mauritius, Mauritius Examination Syndicate and Human Resource Development Council. Dr Sukon has led (a) the development of the first National Human Resource Development Plan for Mauritius; (b) the marking of the first International CIE paper in Mauritius; and (c) the establishment of the Open University of Mauritius. He has been a consultant for several organisations including UNESCO, ILO, UNDP AND ADEA. He has published research papers and supervised several master’s and doctoral theses. He has been a member of the Senate of University of Mauritius and Academic Council of University of Technology, Mauritius. He also holds a honorary position at Imperial College London, UK.
Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon    

  Dr Albert van Jaarsveld is the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He was Chief Executive Officer of the National Research Foundation before joining UKZN. His career in research, teaching and leadership include academic and management positions at the Universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch, as Dean of Science, Adjunct Professor: Environmental Studies Programme at Dartmouth College, USA, Vice President and more recently, President and CEO of the National Research Foundation.He obtained his PhD in Zoology from the University of Pretoria. Pursued post-doctoral studies and research in Conservation Biology and Global security in Australia and the UK respectively and completed executive management training at Harvard University. His research work focussed on biodiversity and conservation planning, biodiversity and climate change as well as ecosystem services. He was appointed full Professor at both the Universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch and has published in excess of 100 primary research papers, including highly cited works in Science and Nature.
